It consists of 31 chapters.The introduction to the workbook of A Course in Miracles states: “The textbook of A Course in Miracles provides a theoretical foundation that makes the exercises of the workbook lessons meaningful”. The text contrasts your unreal condition of separation with the reality of your oneness with God. It paints such a clear picture that you will naturally make the right decisions. But before it knows what to decide for it must gain awareness of the available options. Your mind is asleep and needs to be awakened. The text covers a grand scheme of subjects; miracles, perception, forgiveness, and healing and illustrates the central purpose of A Course in Miracles; the undoing of fear, the awakening from the dream, and your function in your own salvation and the salvation of the world. The uncompromising and singular expression of the text leaves not one spot of the human mind to linger in darkness. Every corner of your illusionary self and dreamed up world is challenged, exposed, and illuminated. The text drills with absolute certainty, authority, and repetition through the layers of resistance, complacency, and rejection, then through the wells of guilt, unworthiness, and abandonment to your innocent self as created by God. Let’s look at the five basic premises from the Textbook Introduction of A Course in Miracles A Course in Miracles is a required course1. “This is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary.”“Course” stands for a plan of learning as well as for a road to travel on or a journey to take. The miracle is a correction. As such the course is a plan of learning that restores your natural state of unlimited, unhindered extension. You are an expression of love, light, and joy. What you learned before has put you to sleep. You forgot who you are and what your true calling is. For that reason is it impossible for you to decide what the curriculum is or what you think works best for you. Your rejection of reality is the reason for this Course. A Course in Miracles states that free will should lead to freedom2. “Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time.”A Course in Miracles is a path of unlearning. Learning it depends on willingness to accept the truth created by God, and to lose your willfulness as maker of a substitute reality. A Course in Miracles states that free will should lead to freedom. If it has not made you free the will you abide by is not free either. It is self-will that leads consistently to frustration, suffering, and unhappiness. There is only one will and you share that with God. Resisting His will is to be in conflict. As long as you make allowance for opposing plans for salvation, peace, happiness, and freedom will be out of reach. Learn to accept therefore, with an unending storehouse of second chances, what it is you truly want. A Course in Miracles removes the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence3. “The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love's presence, which is your natural inheritance.”Learn to think differently. Learn how to direct your mind and how to let your mind be directed. I invite you for a big change in your life. There is definite peace in knowing that learning this course is not a doing but an undoing. The only obstacle is fear. The fear to lose the idea of who you are and what you think love is. But what you are most afraid of is love itself. To love therefore is a conscious choice not to be afraid. A Course in Miracles negates the negative4. “The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite.” Through reading the text of A Course in Miracles you start to negate the negative. A double negative is more positive than positive because it ends all opposites and ends duality itself. Reality is singular; it expresses itself to itself, as itself. Nothing can oppose it. Nothing or no one can go against or take from you what you truly are.A Course in Miracles restores peace5. This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way:Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God. |
